Winemakers love dogs. The connection between winemakers and their dogs has long been acknowledged as one of the strongest bonds around – even if the dog will inevitably steal their lunch when they’re distracted during bottling.
This fourth edition of Wine Dogs California features over 140 wineries from the Golden State with stunning portraits of their loyal pooches. Along the way, the mutts and purebreds are interspersed with cartoons selected from the iconic magazine The New Yorker.
Meet the canine celebrities of California’s great wine estates, including Burt Reynolds, Bo Derek, Dave Grohl, and Buster Posey, and find out which giant dog’s sock obsession has helped thousands of people in need.
Wine Dogs California 4 is a photographic journal of stunning pictures and great stories: created all for the love of dogs and wine.

“The Wine Dogs we meet are some of the luckiest canines around. Their days are filled with meet and greets with visitors, gator rides through the vines, and burning the midnight oil with their beloved owners during the long nights of harvest. That’s the thing about dogs – they just want to be with you. They give us that daily dose of unconditional love (which usually goes both ways).” ~ Craig McGill and Susan Elliott
Craig McGill and Susan Elliott are the creators of Wine Dogs. For over 18 years, they have braved being licked to death, rough-housed, shedded and slobbered on, barked at (mainly by winemakers) and the occasional squeaky ball accident – all in the quest to take the perfect dog photo. Oh and to drink some damn fine wine as well…
The New Yorker’s cartoon tradition started 90 years ago, in the very first issue, published on February 21, 1925. Since then, the magazine has featured more than 80,000 cartoons on its pages. We feature cartoons from Edward Frascino, Jack Ziegler, Roz Chast, Mike Twohy, Teresa Burns Parkhurst, Harry Bliss, Joe Dator, Danny Shanahan and Charlie Hankin.
