Anyone who visits a winery can’t help but notice the omnipresent dog – as much a part of the place as the winemaker or the cellarhand.
This fourth edition of Wine Dogs Australia is a large-format book and features over 150 wineries from around the country with stunning portraits of their loyal pooches.
Along the way, the mutts and purebreds are interspersed with short essays by Nick Stock, Nick Ryan, Tyson Stelzer, Ben Canaider, Tory Shepherd, and many more.
Find out which dog is the canine lepidopterist, who ‘crop-dusts’ the tasting room and discover the identity of the infamous McLaren Vale toilet-roll thief.
Wine Dogs Australia 4 is a photographic journal of stunning pictures and great stories: created all for the love of dogs and wine.

“It’s a delightful book, simple but ingenious in concept and content.” ~ Mike Jaensch, WineState Magazine
Mike Bennie is one of Australia’s foremost wine writers and presenters and is a feature writer for Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine, editor-at-large of the highly respected industry website WineFront.com.au and wine/drinks editor for Delicious magazine. Mike is also a local and international wine judge. His work has appeared in Time Out, The Sunday Telegraph Style Magazine and Men’s Style, and many other publications. He likes long walks on the beach with a bottle of wine in hand.
David Brookes is a wine writer/marketer, presenter and wine judge living in South Australia’s Eden Valley. He divides his time between playing his guitar on the porch, staring up at big gum trees and travelling Australia and overseas researching wine stories. He is the proud father of Dudley the Wonder Dog, a cat, a sheep, seven ducks and a couple of chooks. He spends too much on wine.
Ben Canaider is a wine and drinks writer and author. He is published in both Europe and the USA, and in four languages. He never dines in restaurants he hasn’t been to before.
Susan Elliott is co-owner and creative director of Giant Dog Publishing based in Sydney, Australia.
Craig is a gifted artist and one of the founding principals of Giant Dog publishing. He photographs exclusively for the Wine Dogs series of books and calendars. www.theartofcraigmcgill.com
Jeni Port is a freelance wine writer based in Melbourne, writing for The Age, Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine, Winestate Magazine and others. She judges wine throughout Australia and is an author. In 2014 she was named Wine Communicator of the Year by Wine Communicators of Australia, a national group of wine professionals.
Thrown out of university in Adelaide and moving to Sydney, Nick Ryan used the knowledge he’d gained raiding his old man’s cellar to land a job with one of Sydney’s leading wine merchants. Realising that writing about it was easier than lifting it has led him to where he is now. He’s a regular contributor to Men’s Style Australia, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Jamie Magazine and many more. He is passionate about wines that are just as interesting by the fourth glass as they are at the first and would give it all up to play one game for the Port Adelaide Football Club.
Tory Shepherd is the political editor at The Advertiser and splits her time between Adelaide and Canberra. She is lucky enough to have friends who send her funny dog pictures or take her out for wine whenever she’s had enough of the nation’s politicians.
Tyson Stelzer is the International Wine & Spirit Communicator of the Year 2015, Australian Wine Communicator of the Year 2013 and International Champagne Writer of the Year 2011. He is a television presenter, regular contributor to 15 magazines and author of 15 wine books, though doesn’t yet consider himself an ‘old dog’ in the world of wine writing.
Nick Stock is one of Australia’s most prolific wine commentators whose involvement in wine stretches well beyond writing to radio and television broadcasting, wine show judging, public speaking, educating and winemaking. His dogged pursuit of great wine takes him all over the place and he’s come to recognise that wherever great wine is made, there’s usually a great dog nearby. winelens.com.au
